WHY DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS?

Children's Writing Competition

Covid-19 has changed the world dramatically. Children have a unique perspective on this situation and this writing competition is an opportunity for them to express what they feel about the vital role of HAND WASHING.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

If you are 13 or younger, write an essay or short story on the topic WASH YOUR HANDS! No more than 500 words please. Send your entry to essay@cleverclogsbooks.com before the deadline June, 25 2020.

HOW WILL THIS WORK?

A panel of judges will read through all the entries and select the top three. These finalists will win amazing prizes for themselves and their school. Parents, Teachers, encourage your children to participate; enhance their writing skills and have lots of fun creating their own masterpiece.

WHAT WILL THEY WIN?

1.   The 1st Prize Winners gets 6 Clever Clogs Books of their choice and 40 copies of WHY DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS? for their school library. WHY DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS? is available in four languages. The winner can select copies in English, Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo.
2.   The 2nd Prize Winner gets any 3 Clever Clogs Books of their choice and 20 copies of WHY DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS? for their school. WHY DO YOU WASH YOUR HANDS? is available in four languages. The winner can select copies in English, Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo.

Meet The Judges

Let's meet the judges who will be reading through all the submissions, selecting the finalists and helping with identifying the top three.




TOBI EYINADE

Co-founder, Roving Heights

Tobi Eyinade is the co-founder of @rovingheights - a vibrant, social-minded book sales and distribution company with the focus of making books the new cool. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Obafemi Awolowo University and is a conduit that seeks to transform minds by rekindling their interest in books.



SADE FADIPE

Children's Author

Sadipe Fadipe @sadesbookworld is a recipient of international awards, a children's author of indegenous content and a primary education specialist based in the United Kingdom. She is a wife and mother to two daughters with a passion for literacy and cultural development.



AKEEM LASISI

Journalist & Teacher

Akeem Lasisi is a poet, journalist and teacher. Lasisi, a two-time winner of the Association of Nigerian Authors/Cadbury Poetry Prize and a winner of the Nigeria Media Merit Award. His books include 'Right Option English', 'Born to Teach' and 'Phenomenal Lagos: 50 Monuments in the Centre of Excellence', co-authored with Kabir Alabi. Lasisi is also the publisher of phenomenal.com.ng


AYO OYEKU

YA Author

Ayo Oyeku is a writer of prose, poetry and screenplay. He made an early mark in 2004, when his first children's book, First Among Equals, was selected by the World Bank for distribution across schools and libraries in the country. In 2015, his young-adult novel, Tears of the Lonely, won the Ezenwa Ohaeto Prize for Fiction, by the Society of Young Nigerian Writers. In 2016, he was shortlisted for the prestigious Golden Baobab Prize. In 2018, he emerged as one of the multiple winners of the same prize. In 2019, he won the ANA Children's Literature Prize for his book, Mafoya and the Finish Line.



UCHECHI MBA-UZOUKWU

Managing Director, D and D Media

Uchechi Mba-Uzoukwu is the Managing Partner of D & D Media. Uchechi, a graduate of English Language and Literary Studies, is passionate about Literature and the Arts. Uchechi's love for stort-telling has inspired her work in publishing African-inspired books for kids. She's also working on an animated series based on African stories and culture. Her debut children's book was featured as a “Top Pick” in The Washington Post on the 30th of April 2020.
